Tiles with Adinkra Symbols

What is Adinkra symbols?  Adinkra symbols are used in various art forms from West Africa, such as textiles (like mudcloth), sculpture and pottery. The symbols have meanings that depend on context, such as color, the event where they're used (e.g. initiations or funerals), and what they’re placed on. Adinkra symbols are used as metaphors for proverbs or expressions about West African beliefs and concepts.
